By way of explanation. The term 'home business' consists of two words. 'Business' is the second one; it's there to qualify and support the word 'home' and all that goes with it - and not vice versa. Consequently, we also list below, items which are of interest and value to the home. Whether in its context as an office or as a part of your family and lifestyle but always directed at the improved prospects and enjoyment that running a business from home, in its entirety, can bring.

For a current, multi-part overview of starting and running a business from home, go here: http://www.homebusiness.org.uk/features.htm

30.11.2020: UK use of credit rises as buy-now-pay-later schemes 'encourage overspending'. https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/personal-finance-uk-use-of-credit-rises-as-buynowpaylater-schemes-encourage-overspending-130656775.html It's why sponsors and donors grease Tory arses.

In fact Chelsea supporters should be charged ten or a hundred times that amount to help ease the burden on the British taxpayer.

UK and France sign deal to prevent Channel migrant crossings. https://uk.yahoo.com/news/uk-france-sign-deal-prevent-171056025.html 'Refugees' not 'migrants'. (Although one does accept this is a propaganda statement for the fake news gutter press.) So. How is this prevention exercise going to happen? Britain and France are going to stop bombing the countries these refugees come from? And anyway, Little Ingerlandt desperately needs intelligent grafters given the imminent prospect of being left with nothing but Brexit and Tory voters.

29.11.2020: Big fall in Black Friday UK retail sales despite online spending boom. https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/big-fall-black-friday-uk-181853345.html Surely the lumpenproletariat hasn't deduced that playing video games and ordering Eat Out (shit) doesn't exactly enhance their spending power?

Police investigate ‘Toilet of England’ prank on Kent road signs. https://www.aol.co.uk/news/2020/11/28/police-investigate-a-toilet-of-englanda-prank-on-kent-road-si/ This is clearly an offence serious enough to merit police time when the movements of terrorists, murderers, rapists and thieves can otherwise be ignored. Including of course, the criminal Brexit vote. On the other hand, a solution would seem to be very simple. Hand out the names and addresses of everyone locally who voted for Brexit and let lorry drivers, etc, use their toilets. Or just their front gardens would do.

Brexit Bullshit Latest: https://truepublica.org.uk/united-kingdom/weekly-news-review-3/

Logistics Fiasco: During Logistics UK’s Get Ready for Brexit webinar, Brexiteer Michael Gove provided little help or substance to the event and seemed to be using the occasion as an opportunity to rebuff suggestions that government had been seeking to direct blame towards business for any chaos that may ensue. He went on to say – “What I cannot say is what the approach on the other side of the border will be. What I do know, though, is the approach the EU has taken throughout the process.” As Gove was speaking a UK test run of the new border checks resulted in five-mile lorry queues from Dover (source).

Shipping Fiasco: Ships diverted from the heavily congested hub ports of Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway have mostly discharged their UK imports at the Benelux ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam and Zeebrugge But now carriers are struggling with their relay options that could see the delays extended well into next year. This could mean stock is missing out on the Christmas market and will then congest ports after a complete red-tape change as a result of Brexit. Trade paper – The Loadstar, reports of importer fury. The problem is that the smooth real-time movements of shipping containers and loads has been disrupted and Britain can’t cope. The problem is not just the limited capacity at the main UK ports, there is also a dearth of feeder tonnage to relay the containers. One major feeder operator said that UK containers could be stuck on the north continent for some time. “There is not a single-celled vessel open in the whole of North Europe at the moment,” he said, “and there are thousands of boxes discharging on the wrong side of the Channel!” (source).

Forecast Fiasco: The government is now withholding information even from the Office For Budget Responsibility (OBR) over Brexit. The assumption here is that the OBR forecasts would show even more negative effects if it had been provided with the correct information. Below is an extract from the OBR forecast that clearly shows the government has not provided requested information with regards to Brexit.

From the Horses Mouth: One thing the OBR reports confirms is this. No matter how the government or various high-profile characters try to dress Brexit up – you cannot make up the economic loss of no-deal Brexit by signing trade deals with other countries. It says – “Both the governments own estimates and those of independent experts suggest that gains from all third-party country free trade agreements (FTAs) are likely to be modest. Such deals are unlikely to compensate for the costs associated with the failure to secure an FTA with our nearest and largest trading partner (source).

If you want to read a more in-depth view of the effects of both Covid and Brexit on the economy, this thread provides all the information you’ll need. Brace yourself though – it makes for grim reading but in brief says worst-case scenario is that Britain could be carrying an eye-watering 126 per cent of national debt on its back by 2025/6 (READ MORE). That’s another £500 billion of debt to service on top of the £2 trillion it sits at right now.

Brexit decision – Right or Wrong: Here we are barely a month away from crashing out of the EU without a deal. As we’ve nearly arrived the latest poll results that asks the question – “In hindsight, do you think Britain was right or wrong to vote to leave the EU?” – sees the gap widen to 56 per cent now thinking Brexit is a bad idea. In December 2016 it was 50/50, 12 months later it switched to 52/48 thinking it was a bad decision, a year later 53/47, exactly the same last year and this year 56/44. And yet, we watch in real-time, the extent of the damage being done to the country for reasons nobody wants to explain, that the majority of people don’t want, with a government that clearly cannot properly negotiate (source).

Formula One faces charge of aiding sportwashing by racing in Bahrain. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/nov/25/formula-one-faces-charge-of-aiding-sportwashing-by-racing-in-bahrain There are culprits far worse than Formula 1 when it comes to sportwashing - the Olympics above all but athletics and professional cycling are otherwise the most regular frontrunners. Apart from Arab teams, even Israeli terrorists, war criminals and thieves have their own professional bike team - TITS (Team Israeli TerroristS) - which has managed to recruit the shameless, multiple has-been champion Chris Froome recently. Everyone knows it's a pure propaganda exercise although the point has been deliberately overlooked by Little Ingerlandt's conspiring gutter media, which spends more column-miles every day trying to make sure a future democratic government doesn't deprive them of their tax-avoiding, taxpayer-subsidised, snout-in-trough privileges by dreaming up endless anti-Semitic fantasies, rather than delving into some newsworthy journalism.

Especially when the country's elitist, Jewish President Macron and his henchmen open their mouths. Brexit Bullshit Latest: https://truepublica.org.uk/united-kingdom/weekly-news-review/

With Brexit negotiations, things are literally on a knife-edge with the EU. Another week has failed to produce an agreement and there is really only a week to go before a stalemate is declared and the United Kingdom is left high and dry. The thought that the UK, in the middle of a pandemic and an economic crisis, with millions of jobs hanging in the balance – is willingly to go through with a no-deal Brexit is really quite frightening.

Britain’s international trade department, headed up by Liz truss has emphatically failed to meet any of its own targets. It has not replaced enough of the basic agreements with governments around the world that Britain had as a member of the EU. The EU has 44 preferential trade agreements in place with individual states or regional trading blocs, covering 77 countries in total. Britain has not yet signed up one-quarter of lost trade after four years of effort. The FT reports that as far as the EU is concerned – “More trade agreements are in the pipeline: Brussels is negotiating with Australia and New Zealand and has struck a deal with the South American Mercosur bloc (South America – Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) that is awaiting ratification. They are a subset of the 750 agreements the EU has negotiated with other governments around the world — covering everything from trade to co-operation in handling dangerous nuclear materials. The UK will automatically lose the rights and benefits of these deals when its post-Brexit transition period ends on January 1 (source).”

In the meantime, the DUP and Sinn Fein leaders have sent a joint letter to the European Commission describing as “unacceptable” the alleged threat to the continuity of existing food supplies to Northern supermarkets once the Northern Ireland Protocol takes effect (source). The reality of Brexit in N.I. is now just a few short weeks away and trouble is brewing. The same can be said north of the border where Scottish independence will be the reality of the May elections ticket.

In addition, this week we’ve learned that US firms will gain access to Britons’ personal data via the Japan trade deal that no-one, including MP’s was allowed to scrutinise before it was agreed. Campaigners have warned: ‘Current restrictions on European data to stop regulated transfers to the USA, would disappear.’ Somehow, this is not mainstream news either. This onslaught of our withering privacy is astonishing and before long will be as intrusive as China is to its own people.

Truss said in a recent speech at Chatham House: “It is the government’s ambition to secure free trade agreements with countries covering 80 per cent of UK trade by 2022.” Even if that were true, which it won’t be, Britain still loses 20 per cent of its trading partners that will have to revert to WTO rules. This was something else not written on the side of a bus. Liz Truss was also accused this week of misleading MPs and the public over her new Japan trade deal, because all the tariff “wins” are for goods the UK does not export to the country anyway (source).

14.11.2020: One in five thinking of leaving self-employment. https://www.lse.ac.uk/News/Latest-news-from-LSE/2020/K-November/Hours-and-incomes-of-self-employed-workers-stayed-low-over-summer More than half (58%) of self-employed workers had less work than usual in August 2020. The 'Covid-19 and the Self-employed: Six Months into the Crisis' report published by the London School of Economics indicated that one in five are thinking of leaving self-employment as a result of the pandemic. The reason for the difference is that the self-employed do not have access to an auto-enrolment pension scheme.

Brexit Bullshit Update: https://truepublica.org.uk/united-kingdom/weekly-news-review-31st-oct-6th-nov/

‘Fuck Business’: In June 2018, Boris Johnson was asked about corporate concerns over a so-called hard Brexit, at an event for EU diplomats, where Johnson replied – “Fuck business.” It appears that little has changed given that the government continues to warn business about the huge business interuption that Brexit will bring at the end of the year – but doesn’t actually what change. Goinf along this line of disdain of business – when Johnson did not show up to a Confederation of British Industry (CBI) conference this week, it was only the second time in the history of the event the country’s leader had not spoken at it (source).

Thumbs Down: Just to give some perspective about what the public really thinks of Boris Johnson cosying up to Donald Trump. In Hanbury polling for POLITICO — not a single British constituency would back Trump. The poll confirmed that Biden would win 76 per cent of the vote here to Trump’s 24 per cent (source). For Johnson – he’s rapidly approaching a moment where he’ll be mugged by the truth. If Trump wins and Johnson attempts a trade deal with the USA – on their terms (as reported), there will be mass public protests. If Biden wins – Johnson is forced into doing a deal with the EU – and that deal won’t be anything as economically advantageous as the one we had (source).

Born to mislead: The FT has had enough of Boris Johnson both in terms of Brexit and its handling of Covid. These are just some of the words used to explain Britain’s PM – “Johnson’s missteps over coronavirus have closely followed those he made over Brexit … He went beyond patriotism to embrace British exceptionalism. As coronavirus spread in early February, he mocked the idea that it would affect the global economy, insisting that the UK was “ready to take off its Clark Kent spectacles”, and act “as the supercharged champion” of free trade … These futile promises are a hallmark of Mr Johnson’s leadership… Some people are born to mislead…” – and so on. In other words, Boris Johnson is dropping adherents to his personal crusade like a drug dealer drops his goods in trade in a police raid (source).

Criminal Checks: Yvette Cooper, the chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee asked the Minister for Future Borders & Immigration what future border security checks will be in Jan if the UK loses access to the SIS2 criminal database currently used to check everyone. Neither Minister nor officials could say what system they have or what would happen (WATCH TWITTER CLIP).

Internal Markets Challenge: Boris Johnson is facing further legal action from the EU after he missed a deadline to explain why he is planning to break international law over Northern Ireland. The European Commission confirmed on Tuesday that the deadline to respond to the letter has now come and gone without a UK response, meaning the court action against the UK will move to the next phase (source).

Watch This: As the week’s roll by there’s a growing realisation of what Brexit really is. And if you want an expert explanation put into reasonably easy to understand words then watch this clip. This is a chilling explanation of what Brexit will do to the UK economy after December. Adam Posen is the President of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the No1 rated think tank in the world in international economics. Posen has been an advisor to various central banks, the IMF and the British government. Advice – get a stiff drink and brace yourself …(WATCH Twitter CLIP).

Biden’s Europe: In a blow to the Brexiteers plan to be truly ‘global’ – Britain is no longer Europe’s “centre of gravity” in the eyes of America — and particularly if Joe Biden is elected president next month — according to former senior diplomat and cross-bench peer Peter Ricketts. After 40 years defending Britain’s interests in the world, Ricketts offered a sobering interpretation of the impact Brexit is having on the U.K.’s international standing. “When Biden looks towards Europe, he will see Paris and Berlin more as the centre of gravity of what’s really important for America in Europe, both economically and in security terms, and Britain will be seen rather as an outlier, rather outside the mainstream of Europe,” he said (source).

More Contracts: Management consultants at Deloitte and McKinsey, among others, have landed contracts worth £180 million to carry out “strategic programme management” related to the end of the Brexit transition period. Government documents show six identical contracts, each worth £30 million. For their cash, these firms are expected to “support the successful delivery of the UK’s economic and political independence” the contracts read. “Including relationships with the EU and the rest of the world” (source).

Lorry Parks: Just as a dozen more massive lorry parks emerge all over the country it appears the government are using their own special powers to get around planning regulations and as local newspapers are reporting – none of the normal environmental impact studies that should be prepared for such a site had been made available for scrutiny. These huge ‘truck stop’ areas have little in the way of facilities for such things as drainage, electrical supplies, toilets and so on. The real cost of these facilities is unknown.

Farming: Whilst the 80 seat majority government have been given the mandate to get Brexit done – the public are very strongly concerned about what deal will be struck – and are especially against any deal with America when it comes to food and agriculture. A recent study showed 95 per cent of the public want the UK to maintain food standards, 92 per cent want to maintain animal welfare standards, 86 per cent fear low quality and currently banned food products that would come with a US trade deal. 68 per cent even want new laws to fully protect the animal welfare standards we already have (source).

The Russians Again: Even The Telegraph acknowledges that “an army of Russian trolls sent messages across social media with the hashtag #ReasonsToLeaveEU on the day of Britain’s referendum on membership of the EU.” The article was based on new data released by Twitter. Twitter graciously released its data – not before or during campaigning, but four and half years after the event when it didn’t matter.
