By way of explanation. The term 'home business' consists of two words. 'Business' is the second one; it's there to qualify and support the word 'home' and all that goes with it - and not vice versa. Consequently, we also list below, items which are of interest and value to the home. Whether in its context as an office or as a part of your family and lifestyle but always directed at the improved prospects and enjoyment that running a business from home, in its entirety, can bring.

For a current, multi-part overview of starting and running a business from home, go here: http://www.homebusiness.org.uk/features.htm

Funding from EU programmes guaranteed to 2020. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/funding-from-eu-programmes-guaranteed-until-the-end-of-2020 HMRC has confirmed that the UK Government will guarantee funding for businesses, universities and other organisations that secure funding through EU programmes until the end of 2020, even if Brexit negotiations result in a ‘no-deal’. All successful bids submitted to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Horizon 2020 and the European Commission by UK participants will be fully funded for the entire length of their project, as long as a bid is submitted before the end of 2020.

Payment Systems Regulator launches market review into card payment fees. https://www.acs.org.uk/news/payment-systems-regulator-launches-market-review-card-payment-fees The review will look at the fees that are charged to merchants (retailers) by acquirers such as Worldpay, Barclaycard and others. This fee, known as the merchant service charge rate, includes the interchange fee (capped by EU regulations), profit for the acquirer, and card scheme fees which are currently unregulated.

Call for PAYE-type system for self-employed ‘platform’ workers. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ots-suggests-paye-equivalent-for-online-platform-workers The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) has recommended that the Government consider developing a PAYE-type system for self-employed people who find work through Uber, Deliveroo and other platforms. The recommendation is included in an OTS report on how to simplify tax for self-employed platform workers. Using the system, which would be run by HMRC or platform providers, would not affect the user’s employment status. The OTS also emphasises that HMRC has a critical role in improving tax guidance to help the genuinely self-employed understand their tax obligations.

Water chiefs must 'explain leakage target failures'. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44996648 Not much explaining to do, really. Water chiefs operate within the parameters of greed and incompetence. More explaining has to be done by regulators, Oftwat, and the country's MPs who are supposed to have been looking after our interests - with arguably the most precious commodity on the planet and the issue of leakage - for the past 150 years!

Fake news 'crowding out' real news, MPs say. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-44995490 That has been the case since tabloid trash came along although MPs haven't been complaining about it until recently when their kind of 'real' fake news has become increasingly challenged by the truth coming out through alternative, mainly internet-based channels. Clearly, our corrupt, incompetent, treacherous MPs in thrall to the USA, Israel and Big Corp, are feeling threatened!

Funding comparison platforms confusing for small firms. http://www.p2pfinancenews.co.uk/2018/07/12/lenders-slam-rise-in-sme-funding-aggregators/ Peer-to-peer lenders have warned that the growth in the number of funding aggregator platforms is confusing and off-putting for small firms seeking finance. Aggregator platforms enable smaller firms to compare different finance options from a variety of lenders, while lenders pay the platforms a fee based on the leads generated. However, lenders have warned that only a small volume of their business comes from aggregators because they do not support firms to apply for funding and many borrowers do not meet the lender’s eligibility criteria. In addition, the significant growth in the number of aggregator platforms can be difficult for small firms to navigate as they often fail to provide a fair or accurate comparison of different finance options.

As a sport, tennis (like swimming) usually avoids doping issues by simply not testing its players - or, compared to other sports, very rarely, at best. If Serena Williams is being tested so frequently it's because she is one of the sport's rare performers known to be clean and thus avoiding much embarrassing publicity for her federation and fake anti-doping agencies. As she pointed out, 'At least I'll be keeping the sport clean.'

Recommendations made in the report include regular evaluations of tax reliefs, allowing businesses to deduct capital investments from their annual taxable incomes and replacing business rates with a business land tax.

Tour de France 2018: 'Immoral' fans told to behave after attacks on Chris Froome. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cycling/tour-de-france-2018-chris-froome-spit-punch-video-eurosport-general-classification-a8456641.html It's all very well the Tour organisers belatedly appealing for restraint from lawless, roadside grenouilles (instead of simply arresting them) but France is inherently an 'immoral' country and has been for years. It's run by every cheating hypocrite under the sun from criminal trade unionists holding their compatriots to ransom for weeks every year; through to French UCI 'collabos' leaking confidential information to the (mainly) French fake news media for months of deliberately drawn-out, hate-preaching, only for accurate, scientific findings (non-French) to vindicate not just Froome but dozens of other similar victims who have also been subjected to the same 'immoral, 'cheating' and 'hypocritical' flawed testing procedures, media assassination and public vitriol (by the French.) In the meantime, 'immoral', cheating, ex-doper, French sporting cowards take to prancing and preaching on the telly and in the sports news columns as (fake) good examples to the rest of the world - except that only a tiny minority of the public can't see through it all! (Apart from the French, Brexit Knobheads and other fake news disciples.)

Of course, it's all about business isn't it? Attracting and then taking money off uncontrolled, lawless, dangerous, stupid, spectator-dross is every bit as profitable as taking it off genuine, knowledgeable fans. And despite the unctuous shit which comes out of the mouths of the Tour de France organisers, professional cycling's governing and representative bodies, fake 'anti'-doping agencies, and above all the fake news media which has just had a banjoree of cheating at sport World Cup level, targetting the odd sportsman in this way is very, very lucrative indeed. From driving click-bait, to increased copy; more feet on the ground = more baguette and wine and beer sales. In fact, it is respected (non-French) opinion that everything from inflammatory remarks from French ex-doper cheats, further exaggeration and mis-reporting from the media, the thugs at the roadside throwing urine and abuse, even the numerous accidents (which never involve French riders) is deliberately planned and co-ordinated. But that's a question which will never be addressed in the fake news media, of course.

Quarter of workers have a side business. http://workplaceinsight.net/quarter-of-british-workers-have-a-side-hustle-as-well-as-their-main-job/ A quarter of workers in the UK are earning a secondary income from freelance work or a separate small trade, according to research from Henley Business School. Overall, side businesses contribute an estimated £72 billion to the UK economy every year. The research has revealed that side businesses generate an average of 20% of the income of the workers who run them. Almost half (49%) of business leaders believe allowing workers to run a side business helps them to retain staff, while 60% say it makes staff more productive. In their dreams.
