By way of explanation. The term 'home business' consists of two words. 'Business' is the second one; it's there to qualify and support the word 'home' and all that goes with it - and not vice versa. Consequently, we also list below, items which are of interest and value to the home. Whether in its context as an office or as a part of your family and lifestyle but always directed at the improved prospects and enjoyment that running a business from home, in its entirety, can bring.

For a current, multi-part overview of starting and running a business from home, go here: http://www.homebusiness.org.uk/features.htm

31.08.2017: Increase in numbers of over-55s running a business. The number of firms run by the over-55s has gone up by 63% in the past decade, according to research from Barclays Business. There has also been a 140% rise in the number of business owners aged 65 and older, making it the fastest-growing age group for business owners. Overall, new firms set up by the over-55s in 2015 added more than £7 billion to the UK economy in the following year. Separate research from Moore Stephens has also revealed that 21% of directors of small and medium-sized firms are now over the state retirement age of 65, with poor retirement planning partly responsible for the rise in the number of directors working past retirement age. Debt-laden targeted by credit card firms. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-41082034 That's always been the case; perhaps the media is desperate for anything which isn't a 'fake news' story these days?

Pound almost at parity with the euro as it falls to an eight-year low amid Pacific crisis. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2017/08/29/pound-falls-eight-year-low-against-euro/ What 'Pacific crisis'? The one being Trumped up by the US murder industry and its Coalition of Evil cohorts and propaganda stooges? And the £ was heading for parity with the euro immediately the country's so-called 'majority' voted for Brexit. And deliberately so, many experts would say.

The London housing bubble has finally burst. http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/housing-market-property-london-south-east-burst-bubble-inflation-home-owner-a7918556.html

French bike couriers unhappy with Emmanuel Macron's vision of the gig-economy. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/france-gig-economy-emmanuel-macron-french-bike-couriers-protests-flexible-labour-rules-a7919736.html They will just have to do what French bike riders have always done before them: dope more to go faster to earn more.

Micro-home designed for the homeless unveiled in Worcester. https://www.aol.co.uk/news/2017/08/30/micro-home-designed-for-the-homeless-unveiled-in-worcester/ This could be the Tory regime's vision of starter homes for anyone who can't afford a mortgage.

30.08.2017: Skills shortage among UK services firms at its worst in almost two decades, finds survey. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/skills-shortage-among-uk-services-firms-at-its-worst-in-almost-two-decades-finds-survey-a7913001.html Ah, well. With the present regime at the helm, matters can only get worse!

Small firms missing out on government contracts. http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/reforming_public_sector_procurement A report from the TaxPayers' Alliance has highlighted the difficulties facing smaller firms bidding for government contracts. According to the 'Reforming Public Sector Procurement' report, 52% of government contracts awarded in 2015 were worth €100 million or more, meaning the UK is "over-reliant" on large companies such as Capita, Atos and G4S. Small and medium-sized firms received around 27p in every £1 of procurement spending on government contracts in 2014/15. However, 60% of procurement with smaller firms is classified as indirect, meaning it only reaches them via a larger contractor. (EnterpriseQuest)

And of course, small firms aren't corporate murderers who have greased politicians' arses, either.

Majority 'still to claim' over PPI mis-selling. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-41038319 This will be the Brexit Knobhead 'majority', of course. Who can't read or write.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's back to highlight termination of PPI complaints deadline. https://www.aol.co.uk/news/2017/08/29/arnold-schwarzeneggers-back-to-highlight-termination-of-ppi-com/ Just another reminder of Little Ingerlandt's colonial subservience to the USA. Or haven't we got any of our own piss-poor, retired actors who could pass muster for a twenty-second ad?

UK house price growth slows despite strong job market. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-41081096 In fact, it's no surprise at all if the country's fake news media, including the BBC - the British (and American and Israeli) Bropaganda Corporation - reported the so-called 'strong job market' as it really is. Because under the present regime jobs do not = shekels. So let's have an informed assessment from a respected source (i.e. not the BBC): http://truepublica.org.uk/united-kingdom/rise-bad-jobs/

Good job todays' Digital Dickheads and corrupt, incompetent telecoms companies and politicians weren't around just before The Industrial Revolution came along - or it wouldn't have come along at all!

Weaker pound 'behind drop in UK tourists visiting Ireland'. https://www.aol.co.uk/money/2017/08/29/weaker-pound-behind-drop-in-uk-tourists-visiting-ireland/ Or could it be down to recent reporting that most Brits couldn't find Ireland on a map. Especially Brexit Knobheads, who ain't got no money, cash, shekels to spend, either.

Farfetch boss José Neves: 'The magic of bricks-and-mortar shops will never die'. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2017/08/28/farfetch-boss-jose-neves-magic-bricks-and-mortar-shops-will/

Little Ingerlandt's Brexit negotiating team don't know if to follow the advice of The Scum. Or The Daily Wail. Or simply continue to follow orders from the Pentagon. Or Tel Aviv.

Majority of Brits would upgrade to iPhone 8 despite price hike. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/08/27/majority-brits-would-upgrade-iphone-8-despite-price-hike/ 'The majority' have been asked, have they? Or is this the same 'majority' which didn't quite materialise at the last elections?

Only Brexit Knobheads would believe their politicians actually subscribe to democracy!

Holiday cyber threat: GCHQ says take extra steps to secure smartphones. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/08/26/holiday-cyber-threat-gchq-says-take-extra-steps-secure-smartphones/ GCHQ taking time off eavesdropping for American terrorists again? Or is this just another step in the Pentagon's strategy to sow fear and confusion before its killer robots home in on every moron with a dummyphone and a social media account?

'I don't recognise my country anymore': British citizens leaving UK because of Brexit amid exodus of Europeans. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/brexit-british-citizens-leaving-migration-impact-irish-passports-latest-eu-referendum-fears-racism-a7914606.html Honest, conscientious and intelligent Brits have been leaving their country in their millions since 'Baby Butcher' Blair and his successive regimes of war criminals threw in their hand with American terrorists, murderers and thieves. That's why a significant number of those remaining (allegedly) voted for Brexit. The stupid, gullible ones.

Carling lager is 'weaker than advertised', firm says in court. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-41059610 This has been common knowledge since such piss first became available. But 'weaker than advertised' is the normal state of affairs for anything consumed in significant quantities in the UK: from broadband to banking; neddyburgers to cars. Since the internet and dummyphones came along, never has the consumer been so duped into feeling so universally 'empowered' yet been so universally thick and so universally exploited.

Proposals for post-Brexit customs arrangements. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-customs-proposals-laid-out-by-government-in-new-paper-on-future-relationship-with-the-eu The Government has published the first of a series of papers setting out its plans for the UK’s relationship with the EU after Brexit. The first paper includes proposals for a new customs relationship with the EU. Under the proposals, the UK will create a new customs partnership with the EU in order to align its approach and remove the need for a UK-EU customs border. The paper also proposes an interim period after the UK leaves the EU when customs arrangements would remain broadly the same as they are now. This would ensure that firms in the UK only have to adjust to one new customs relationship. Guy Verhofstadt, the European Parliament’s lead coordinator on Brexit, has dismissed the proposals as a “fantasy”. (EnterpriseQuest)

The new features will allow brands to adapt their ad content so it is more readable and likely to be seen by consumers using a smartphone. Marketers and small traders will also be able to add ‘sitelinks’ to their ads, which are additional links that take consumers to a specific page on an advertiser’s website, such as for details about opening hours or a particular product page. Big rise in construction false self-employment. http://www.unitetheunion.org/news/huge-rise-in-bogus-self-employment-demonstrates-urgent-need-for-radical-employment-reforms/ Unite has called for reforms to employment law to tackle false self-employment in the construction sector. False self-employment occurs when an employer classes its workers as self-employed in order to avoid paying income tax, National Insurance contributions and employee benefits. This is despite the fact that workers are effectively treated as employees. Around 1.1 million construction workers were paid via the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) in 2016/17, up 8% from the previous year, which Unite claims is due to false self-employment. Overall, 47% of the construction workforce is paid via CIS. (EnterpriseQuest)

By July 2018 every bank and building society in the UK will offer cheque imaging. This will reduce the clearing time of cheques from six working days to a single working day and could enable banks to allow customers to pay in images of cheques via mobile banking apps. Adjudicator not doing enough to support suppliers. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/629020/gca-statutory-review-2013-16.pdf The Department for Business has published the findings of its first review into the effectiveness of the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA), which was set up in 2013 to improve the relationship between the ten largest supermarkets and their suppliers. The review has revealed that a significant number of suppliers do not raise issues with the GCA due to worries that there will be commercial consequences, such as a supermarket changing suppliers. Nevertheless, the review claims that the GCA is effectively enforcing the groceries code, and that the number of suppliers who are experiencing issues with their supermarket customers fell to 56% in 2017, down from 79% in 2014.
